JD for Data Center Engineer (On-Site) – 5 to 7 yrs
We are looking for an experienced Data Center Engineer to join our on-site operations team.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data center hardware support, racking and stacking activities, break/fix work, cabling, infrastructure operations, and hands-on support for compute, network, and storage systems.
This is an on-site role requiring 4–6 years of hands-on experience in data center operations and hardware support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily operational tasks within the data center, including hardware health checks, environmental monitoring, and physical inspections.
- Install, rack, cable, and configure server, storage, and network equipment following industry standards and site policies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware-related incidents, including server failures, disk replacements, power issues, and network connectivity problems.
- Execute break/fix activities as per vendor or remote team instructions, including component swaps, firmware updates, and diagnostics.
- Work closely with remote support teams to provide hands-on assistance during P1/P2 incidents and maintenance windows.
- Support network patching activities, including fiber and copper cabling, labeling, and patch panel updates.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all assets, including asset tagging, documentation updates, and rack diagram maintenance.
- Ensure compliance with data center security, access controls, and operational SOPs.
- Handle server provisioning and decommissioning activities, including wiping, packing, and preparing equipment for disposal or shipment.
- Manage physical cable management to ensure clean, structured cabling following best practices.
- Escort vendors and third-party engineers, ensuring adherence to site requirements and safety rules.
- Participate in scheduled power, cooling, or infrastructure maintenance activities, working with facility teams when required.
- Coordinate with hardware vendors for RMA processing, diagnostics, and replacement activities.
- Maintain logs, update tickets, and provide detailed task/incident reports using ticketing tools such as ServiceNow, Remedy, or Jira.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 4–6 years of hands-on experience in data center hardware operations and on-site support.
- Strong knowledge of x86 server hardware (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Cisco UCS).
- Experience handling storage hardware, SAN components, and fibre channel connectivity.
- Good understanding of network hardware (switches, routers, firewalls) and cabling standards.
- Familiarity with data center power, cooling concepts, and rack layout design.
- Ability to read and interpret rack diagrams, network schematics, and floor layouts.
- Experience using KVM, remote console tools, and basic BIOS/ILO/DRAC operations.
- Strong documentation discipline and experience working with ITSM ticketing platforms.
